UPdates As they Happen
See to the right for answers to new FAQs we’ve had throughout the day, or updates as they happen. We’ve appreciated the Feedback and Questions that have been coming through and as always have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and kindness of our JZK community!
-
We have added a waitlist item to the bottom of the bookings page. Click “Book Now” above, and scroll to the bottom of the page. This booking lets you add to any activity at any time. Waitlist guests will be called in booking order and offered spots should they open. This is both a manual and trial process, so we thank you in advance for your patience.
-
We have opened an extra session for the Meerkat Memento activity. We are hoping to run it at 4:30pm, however that is getting close to the meerkats’ bedtime, so refunds will be given if they leave us for their cozy beds!

Just 20mins!
JZK CCD Paid Experiences
These experiences are open to JZKs, their guests & members of the public who attend on the day. JZKs will get priority booking on Saturday 18th at 10am and the public will be able to book from Wednesday 22nd July. Proceeds from these experiences will go toward our nominated charities on the day.
For our animals’ comfort and diet there are limited spaces for each activity, so please make sure to book early to avoid disappointment. We also note that our animals remain our first priority. If an animal chooses not to participate, or interactions need to be rescheduled, refunds can be organised.
Costs and minimum ages vary, so please read descriptions carefully.
Please check the time allowances to make sure you are not booking two experiences too close together and miss one. All time allowances are approximate as animal behaviour can be variable.
The time allowance is the time for all participants to have their feed, not individuals.
Photos are welcome during most activities, but some locations and habitat designs make photographs easier than others.
Cheetah Feed
Minimum Age: 4yrs
Cost: $20
Time Allowance: 20mins
-
Use tongs to offer a cheetah a piece of meat from its daily diet through the habitat mesh.
Photos are welcome.
Giraffe Feed
Minimum Age: 4yrs
Cost: $15
Time Allowance: 30mins
-
Feed the giraffe a carrot stick or a lettuce leaf from a raised eye height platform.
Photos are welcome.
Meerkat Memento
Minimum Age: 8yrs
Cost: $50
Time Allowance: 30mins
-
Only available to JZKs and their Guests.
Participants will create a very basic art piece, then have the meerkats run over their artwork to add their footprints as a take home memento. Guests need to have good mobility and will be sitting on potentially uncomfortable rocks in the meerkat habitat for up to 10 mins. Meerkats are free to move around guests and their feet as they engage with the art. Everyone will have a moment with a meerkat on their lap to take a photo, but it is unlikely participants will get to pat a meerkat.
Participants might have washable paint put on them by a meerkat.
Friends and family will be able to spectate from outside the habitat, and can help make the art if the participant wants them to.
JZKs do not have to buy a ticket for their guests to book, but we will ask participants who invited them.

Keeper/ Enrichment Talks
These experiences are open to anyone at the zoo and in the right place on the day. The Painted Dog Talk in particular will have a small viewing area, so we recommended arriving early to secure your spot if it is of high interest.
Each talk will be paired with the Keeper providing food to the animal so you see them up close as they eat or interact with enrichment.

How to apply discount code
Notes on Entry Codes:
Only one code can be applied per transaction. Multiple transactions will be required to use multiple codes. Booking fees are percentage based, so free transactions do not incur a booking fee.
Your General Entry Code is only valid for an adult ticket. Children, concession etc can all be booked under the adult ticket for the day. This ensures the most expensive ticket type was covered.
Reptile Code will work for all ticket/reptile types.
FAQ
-
JZKs and other members accompanying them, are welcome to use the members entries starting from 8:45am.
Any paying guests (including pre-paid entry tickets) can enter from Zoo Opening at 9:30am.
The first activity is at 9:45am. The market stall runs 10am-3pm. We recommend arriving to the entry closest to your first activity 15mins early. Otherwise, plan your arrival and departure times around the activities you wish to attend.
-
No. All JZKs will need to scan/redeem their membership card. Any guests who are member can do the same.
Everyone who is not a member will need an entry ticket that can be bought online or at the gate. Each JZK will receive a voucher code for one free ticket. The voucher must be redeemed online or at the gate so that person has a ticket to scan.
-
You should have been emailed a free ticket code the week before the Conservation Day. Head to the zoo website and add a general admission ticket to cart. Add your code in the voucher space as well as any tickets for other accompanying friends or family. All attendees need either a membership or valid ticket to enter the zoo.
-
Only paying participants can view the Siamang sessions.
For everything else, yes -although photo positioning might be tight or awkward in some spots. Some of the encounters we are running are exclusive to JZK weekend, so the areas are where the keepers usually access their animals and not designed for being photogenic.
-
At the drop off session you would have been asked for your availability for watch times. Please keep an eye on your email and you will be contacted with the time and location that your enrichment will be given to the animals.
-
Make sure you are purchasing an adult ticket - even if it is for a child or concession. The adult ticket will cover them for entry on the day, and the code is only valid on adult tickets.
-
All JZKs 14yrs and younger need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. If your JZK needs to be supervised, please reach out by email before the day and we will organise a drop off and pick up time with activities they will enjoy.
-
Please don’t! We will only have a staff member at the gate if you have pre-organised a drop off and pick up time. Reach out the [email protected] to organise. Please include times that you are available and if your JZK wants to complete any specific activities.
-
Yes, preferably by email before the day, however on the day substitutions are also available. Come past the stall and if we have room, you’re welcome to jump in at the next shift change!
-
Shifts are 20 mins long. Before each shift we do a quick chat about what we are selling and why. If your JZK has items they have contributes they wil be able to focus on selling those, while others are welcome to choose a spot on the stall that appeals.
-
Yes, we should have space for JZKs and their accompanying guest to work at the stall together. You will need to make sure your friend represents the zoo and JZKs well to achieve our advocacy and conservation goals.
If you have more than one friend accompanying you, we many not have space for both, but we can determine that on the day.
-
The activity map/brochure is available for download here. Or can be viewed below.
-
Friday 17th, 4pm-4:55pm
Sunday 19th, 3pm-4:55pm
Tuesday 21st, 3:30pm-4:55pm
-
Unfortunately not. All our animal enrichment needs to be approved by Zoo Supervisors and the timing needs to be integrated into the animals’ and keeper’s routines.
If you have made enrichment but missed the deadline, you can still bring it on the day and we will arrange for it to be used at your JZK session in August.
-
Please come to the main reception and tell them you have a JZK item for Conservation Day, then follow their instructions to the drop-off point (about 40m away in case you have something heavy!)
-
Technically yes, however it is strongly prefered that you drop your items at one of the sessions allocated. This allows us time to work out pricing, stall set up (ie number of tables etc) and properly plan.
If you are unable to come to a drop off time, please email us a photo with a size reference, of your items so we can ensure we have the space to adequately display everyone’s hard worked items.
-
Its great if you can let us know if you are planning to bring baked good via email before the day. This is to ensure adequate table space etc.
You are then welcome to drop off your baked goods between 9:45am and 11:30am on the day you are attending. We will accept baked goods up to 12:45pm, however we tend not to sell as many baked items after our cake cutting and selling at 1pm.
If you have any items you would like back from your baked goods (ie containers or platters) please ensure they are labelled. Masking tape with your name and phone number is best, or directly label the item.
The stall closes at 3pm for item pickup.
-
Its great if you could let us know via email that you are planning to bring a cake. This lets us have a good estimate for fridge space etc, however it is not mandatory.
All required information for the cake competition can be found in the entry form here.
-
The cake cutting is at 1pm. There was a typo on the entry form that stated 12:45pm originally. This is fixed in the question above and it will definitely be at 1pm.
